CAD reconstruction service

Reverse Engineering

Turn an existing part into a usable digital model. MMD Studio rebuilds geometry from photos, measurements, scans, or the physical part itself, then can quote optional 3D printing when you need a working prototype or replacement.

Practical workflow

How reverse engineering works

Send photos, basic dimensions, and a short explanation of what the part does. We review the complexity, give a rough estimate, then begin after the deposit is paid and the physical part is received or measured locally.

01

Send photos and dimensions

Share clear photos, rough measurements, material, damaged areas, and the final goal: replacement, fit test, editable CAD, or 3D print.

02

Scope and estimate

We review the geometry and explain the expected work range before you commit to the project deposit.

03

Part handoff or shipping

In Calgary, local handoff or pickup may be arranged. Outside Calgary, the part must be shipped to MMD Studio for measurement and reconstruction.

04

Model and deliver

You receive the rebuilt 3D model. Optional 3D printing can be quoted after the model is checked and prepared.

Rates and deposit

Estimated clearly before detailed work starts

Reverse engineering depends on the part condition, accuracy requirements, number of features, and whether physical measurement or scanning is required. The deposit starts the project and is applied toward the first work block.

For simple parts, photos and measurements may be enough. For complex geometry, curved surfaces, worn parts, or tight fitment, we may need the physical part or a scan before final modeling.

Reverse engineering / CAD30 CAD / hour

Geometry reconstruction, measurement interpretation, clean 3D modeling, and file preparation.

Minimum order / deposit150 CAD

Minimum order and prepayment to start review, scheduling, intake, and the first reconstruction work block.

3D printing2.5 CAD / hour + material

Printing is billed by machine time plus plastic cost. Material is charged in full kilogram increments: minimum 1 kg, then rounded up to the next kilogram when the job exceeds each kg.

Good fit for reverse engineering

  • Broken or discontinued plastic parts
  • Tool holders, brackets, adapters and fixtures
  • Replacement parts that need CAD cleanup
  • Objects that need editable Fusion 360-style geometry
  • Parts that may later be 3D printed or modified

What you receive

  • Clean 3D model based on the available reference
  • STL for 3D printing when requested
  • CAD-ready file workflow when editable geometry is required
  • Optional 3D printing quote: 2.5 CAD/hour plus material charged by full kg increments
